Disinfect high-touch surfaces daily
Now more than ever, you’ll want to disinfect high touch surfaces (i.e. doorknobs and handles, staplers, microwaves, copiers, printers, bathroom surfaces, vending machines and the communal coffee pot) as often as possible. The best way to remind your staff to disinfect often, is to keep a bottle of cleaning solution (or disinfectant wipes) near items that get touched a lot.
Encourage your staff to wash their hands often
Scientists estimate that the average person touches their face roughly 18 times per hour. Suffice to say, staff members who wash their hands regularly will be less likely to catch (and spread) viruses. If you’re able to install a touch free soap dispenser in the office bathrooms and kitchen, this is likely to improve office hygiene.
Set up a trash rotation
If your staff has trash cans under their desks, encourage them to empty the trash bins daily. If you have a trash can in the office kitchen / kitchenette, consider setting up an office rotation, in which people take turns emptying it into the dumpster. Encourage all employees to dispose of perishable items, such as apple cores, banana peels, and half-eaten lunches, in a bin that’s emptied daily.
Encourage your staff to declutter
If your employees tend to have overcluttered desks, encourage them to tidy up their spaces. (You’d be surprised how much trash can collect on a desk, if desk clutter goes unchecked.) If they have stacks of important paper, consider having them scan important documents into a designated folder in the cloud, or, if you absolutely need hard copies, consider buying a filing cabinet.
